Painting Photographs
Painting Photographs are investigations into the materiality of paint through the technical apparatus of photography. Applied in layers using the traditional tools of brush and palette knife, the wet paint was photographed close up, whilst still moving. To enhance the visceral quality and the texture of the paint, we built a five-foot-long large-format 10 × 8 inch camera. The paintings are then discarded and the photographs enlarged 60 times to a scale that absorbs the viewer.
